Transfer Students

Students who wish to transfer into the traditional baccalaureate nursing program must apply via the Eastern Admission Transfer Application. This completed application must be received by the nursing program application deadline of March 1st. Please be sure to pay special attention to the specific deadlines to ensure a proper review of university records and transcripts.

Students must submit

  1. high school transcript,
  2. transcripts from schools of higher education, and
  3. a nursing essay in addition to the required admission personal essay.

Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements to be considered for the traditional BSN nursing program, however, meeting the minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission into the nursing program.

The minimum eligibility requirements for admission to the nursing program include:

  • A cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher.
  • Eligibility to enroll in Chemistry I lecture CHE 210 and CHE 211 lab or previously taken with B- and above. To be eligible to enroll in CHE 210/211 students are required to have taken high school chemistry or completion of a foundational math course e.g., MAT 135/P Math for Liberal arts or MAT 155/P Precalculus.
  • Eligibility to enroll in HSC 318 Anatomy and Physiology I lecture/ lab or completed with B- and above. To be eligible to enroll in HSC 318, students are required to have taken or equivalent to HSC 215 Biology for Health Sciences and HSC 225 Medical Terminology with B- or above.
  • A grade of B- or better is required in any science courses with lab, if completed.

Transfer Records

All post-secondary transcripts from regionally accredited colleges and universities are considered in the nursing program application process. All official transcripts should be submitted to the Undergraduate Admissions Office as part of the university application review process. As part of the nursing program admission process, all GPAs and all previous nursing prerequisite coursework will be reviewed.

Each transfer student will be evaluated individually by the nursing team using a holistic admission approach. The number of credits and types of courses taken at previous institutions will be assessed. Transfer students must take the courses as determined by their advisor to fulfill the necessary requirements to align with the specific cohort they are admitted into. To be eligible to take first nursing course, NUR 200 Fundamentals of Nursing and Health Assessment, the student must have course completed equivalents to HSC 215 Biology for Health Sciences, HSC 225 Medical Terminology and MAT 135/P or MAT 155/P. All nursing courses must be taken at Eastern to receive credit for the BSN degree.
