Students in Dr. Bacholle’s FRE/WST 331, Perspectives on Women’s Issues, course are hosting a plant sale on Wednesday, September 18, 1:00-4:00 pm on the Webb Lawn.
Students, staff and faculty alike can find an assortment of green leafy plants to brighten their dorm, home or office.
All proceeds from the plant sale will benefit girls pursuing secondary education in Haiti. The FRE/WST 331 class has partnered with a charity that offers educational scholarships for girls to attend the College de Jean Bruny in Les Palmes, Haiti.
For many years, Dr. Bacholle has incorporated project-based learning into her coursework. This fundraiser is one example; students design and implement a project to benefit, empower and uplift girls and young women.
Perspectives on Women’s Issues is a course dedicated to exploring women’s role in history, culture, and politics, with a special focus on contemporary issues, including social advancement, political violence, religion, microfinancing, traditions versus modernity, forced marriage, polygamy, incest, sexual identity, and abortion rights.
