On Tuesday, April 4 the World Languages and Cultures Department welcomes Nilda R. Havrilla, Esq. as a guest speaker.
From 2:00 – 3:00 pm in Goddard 208, Attorney Havrilla will offer insights on the legal field in Connecticut, with a special focus on meeting the legal needs of clients and communities with limited English.
Attorney Havrilla is currently the Litigation and Advocacy Director at Connecticut Legal Services, Inc. (CLS), a nonprofit private law firm that is dedicated to helping low-income individuals and families obtain justice. In her 18 years of practice at CLS, Attorney Havrilla has handled housing matters before administrative agencies, state court, and federal court, including evictions, illegal lockouts, housing discrimination cases, False Claims Act cases, grievance hearings with public housing authorities and preservation of housing subsidies. She has served on several state-level panels and task forces related to housing, and currently sits on the Connecticut Advisory Council on Housing Matters as a representative of tenants.
Attorney Havrilla’s talk is part of the World Languages and Cultures Department’s guest lecture series. Each year the Department recruits and hosts guest speakers from businesses and other fields that are of interest to our students. Past speakers include interpreters, translators, medical professionals, and digital marketing managers. These talks help prepare our students for their future careers by offering real world perspectives and valuable contacts.
