Projects

CIT Projects Completed August of 2023

  • Worked with the School of Professional Studies to create Blackboard online course templates for graduate courses which are now online. Obj. I Priority 2
  • Bb Learn navigation was upgraded to Ultra-based Blackboard navigation. Upgrade to Ultra courses is in testing phase. Obj. I Priority 2, Obj. II Priority 3

Network Projects Completed August 2024

  • Upgrade of ECSU Core-Distribution Network to provide for next-generation performance and capacity.  Obj. II Priority 3
  • Redesign of ECSU DataCenter Network Infrastructure to provide for higher resiliency/fail-over capabilities.  Obj. II Priority 3
  • Redesign of ECSU Wide-Area-Network infrastructure to provide for higher resiliency/fail-over capabilities.  Obj. II Priority 3
  • Network hardware refresh including replacement of 1700 Wireless Access-Points, 24 Distribution Routers, and 284 Network Edge-Switches.  Obj. II Priority 3
  • Existing Legacy multi-mode fiber did not allow for true 10Gb uplinks to attached network switches.  This resulted in a performance bottle-neck whereby students residing in these older dorms couldn't achieve the same level of Wi-fi performance as students who reside in newer residence-hall buildings. Obj. II Priority 3
  • Existing Legacy wireless operated in the 2.4 GHz range conflicting with microwaves and other wireless devices.  Obj. II Priority 3
  • The solution project was completed in August, bringing older residence halls up to standard with newer halls.  All of the residence-hall buildings are now utilizing high-performance single-mode fiber in the 5.0GHz range.  Additionally, Mesh technology was used to increase consistent connectivity from one access point to another. In 2020 only 25% of our connections were in the 5.Ghz range, today it's 89% of over 5300 client connections.  The legacy multi-mode fiber is no longer in use. Obj. II Priority 3
  • Additionally we applied this to outside and put access points on the most traveled pathways through campus and greenspaces. This increases connectivity when using our outdoor spaces and moving from one building to another. Obj. II Priority 3

Labs and Classrooms

  • All labs and classroom computers have been replaced with new machines ready to run Windows 11 in time for the Oct. 2025 deadline, completed August 2024. Obj. II Priority 3
  • A/V upgrades to the BTR, completed 2/24/23. Obj. II Priority 3
  • A/V upgrades in Webb 110, completed 1/13/23. Obj. II Priority 3
  • A/V upgrades in turf field and soccer field press boxes, completed 1/3/23. Obj. II Priority 3
  • A/V Installation in Library 107, completed 2/6/23. Obj. II Priority 3

Upcoming Projects

  • Redesign of ECSU Wireless Network Infrastructure to provide for higher resiliency/fail-over capabilities as well as next-generation WiFi-6 performance capacity.  No additional network hardware expenditures required.  Obj. II Priority 3
  • Implementation of Cisco’s next-generation Network Management Platform (Cisco Catalyst-Center).  This platform will provide for improved network health & performance visibility and management.
