Students' Rights as Patients in the Health Service
Respect and Nondiscrimination. You have a right to considerate, respectful and nondiscriminatory care from your health care providers, health plan representatives, and the staff and student workers of the Health Service.
Information Disclosure.You have the right to accurate and easily understood information about your diagnosis, treatment, likely outcomes, health plan, health care professionals, and health care facilities. If you have a physical or mental disability or just don't understand something, assistance will be provided so you can make informed health care decisions.
Participation in Treatment Decisions. You have the right to know your treatment options and to participate in decisions about your care. You also have the right to refuse any and all treatment, to the extent permitted by law, and to be informed of any medical consequences of this action.
Confidentiality of Health Information.You have the right to talk in confidence with your health care provider and to have your health care information protected. Your right to privacy is limited only by state statutes, regulations, rules, or if you pose an imminent danger to yourself or others. You also have the right to review and copy your own medical record and request that your health care provider change your record if it is not accurate, relevant, or complete.
Choice of Providers. You have the right to a choose a health care provider who you feel will provide you with access to appropriate high-quality health care.
Complaints and Appeal. You have the right to a fair, fast, and objective review of any complaint you have against your health plan, health care providers, or other Health Service personnel. This includes complaints about waiting times, operating hours, personal conduct, the way you were treated, and the adequacy of health care facilities.
Review of charges. You have the right to examine and receive an explanation of any bill you may receive.
