Combining a well-rounded, liberal arts education with hands-on instruction, Eastern’s BSN program provides essential skills for the nursing profession: critical thinking, creativity, ethical reasoning, quantitative literacy, communication, and more. In partnership with Hartford Healthcare (HHC), Eastern students benefit from a state-of-the-art clinical simulation lab at Windham Hospital. In conjunction with experienced clinical faculty and a wide range of innovative clinical experiences at various community-focused healthcare organizations, students will be the best prepared for performing in their future roles as registered nurses.
With the help of the CT Health Horizons Initiative, Hartford HealthCare and Eastern Connecticut State University have partnered for the creation of a simulation lab at Windham Hospital for Eastern nursing students will approximate the HHC lab in Hartford. (Courtesy of the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation, Hartford Healthcare). The simulation lab at Windham Hospital is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2025. The facility will include multiple rooms that replicate various clinical settings, from bedside nursing to critical care, and feature state-of-the-art mannequins capable of simulating a variety of clinical scenarios. This high-fidelity simulation will allow Eastern nursing students to practice patient assessment and a variety of clinical procedures in a challenging, low-risk environment.
Nursing students will begin utilizing the newly created simulation skills labs housed on campus in Goddard Hall in rooms 124, 125 & 128. Here, beginning in their sophomore year, students will be able to practice key health assessment techniques and other hands-on skills learned throughout their nursing courses. These same labs will also be the site of tutoring for those in the nursing program in order to provide remediation opportunities, learning experiences and additional ways to instill confidence when later performing as a nurse in the clinical setting. With the use of high fidelity mannikins, medical supplies and faculty instruction, additional learning opportunities will be able to be created for situations and scenarios students may not encounter in the field. These simulation experiences will be ongoing throughout their time here at Eastern.

The Eastern Connecticut State University baccalaureate degree program in nursing is pursuing initial accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) CCNE Accreditation (aacnnursing.org). Applying for accreditation does not guarantee that accreditation will be granted. Eastern's nursing program has begun the self-study process and will be applying in the Fall of 2024, after the first nursing cohort begins their nursing courses. The goal is to obtain accreditation prior to the first cohort of nursing students graduating in May of 2027. Eastern Connecticut State University is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).
