Credit Limits

The standard course load for a full-time student is 15 credits per semester. A full-time student must carry a minimum of 12 credits per semester to be considered full-time, but are able to register for up to 17 credits during the initial registration period.


 

Credit Limits per Term

  • During the Open Add/Drop period, students may register for up to 19.5 credits, if they meet the following criteria:

    • Have attended Eastern full-time for one semester.
    • Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or better.
    *Credit limits are automatically adjusted once the previous term final grades are posted*

    Students may register for up to 21 credits if they meet the following Criteria:

    • Have successfully carried at least 18 credits in a previous semester at Eastern.
    • Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better

    *No student will be able to exceed 21 credits in any given semester.*


    *On rare occasions, exceptions to the course load limits can be made. Exceptions to these polices must be approved by submitting an Academic Appeal. (Submitting an Appeal does not guarantee approval.)*

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Registration exceeding 18 credits per semester will result in an over-registration fee. Please check with the Bursar's Office for the per credit fee.

  • Students can register up to 12 credits over the entire summer session without additional approval.

    Credit limits per Summer Sessions are:

    • Through the end of Summer Session A, students may register for up to 7 credits.
    • During Summer Sessions B & C, students may register for up to 7 credits.

    Note: a student enrolled in Session C (three weeks) may not also enroll in an overlapping, intensive course.

    *It is possible to be approved for registration of up to 3 additional credits for a total of 15 credits provided that the student is in good academic standing. Approval can be obtained by submitting an Academic Appeal. (Submitting an Appeal does not guarantee approval)*

  • During Wintersession a student may enroll for a maximum of 4 credits without any additional approval.

    A student can register up 7 credits, with an appeal, if they meet the following criteria:

    • The courses are offered sequentially.
    • The student completed the first course with a grade of B or higher OR the student’s overall GPA is 2.5 or higher.

    *Obtaining approval for a Credit Overload can be requested by submitting an Academic Appeal. (Submitting an Appeal does not guarantee approval)
