Developmental Psychology Concentration: Course Sequence

Check all course descriptions for prerequisites before planning course schedule

First Year

  • PSY 100 General Psychology
  • PSY 101 Introduction to the Psychology Major
    • You will NOT be excused from this, even if you are a transfer student
  • PSY 2XX Developmental Course (PSY 206, 208)
  • LAC Courses - MAT 135/139, ENG 100/100P, and FYI 100 MUST be taken during the first year
    • You should complete nearly all of your Tier I requirements this year
    • The department recommends BIO 202 to fulfill the Tier I Natural Sciences requirement

Second Year

  • PSY 205 Principles of Learning (or Cognitive Psychology in 3rd year)
  • PSY 227 Behavioral Science Statistics (second semester)
    • The department requires completion of the Tier I Math course prior to enrollment
    • The department recommends MAT 216 (Tier II Applied Information Technology) prior to enrollment
  • PSY 2XX "Developmental" Course (PSY 206, 208, 210)
  • LAC Courses - LAC Tier II courses
  • 1 elective or minor course

Third Year

  • PSY 247 Research Methods I
    • fulfills the university's Stage 2 writing requirement
    • Students must complete PSY 227 with a grade of C or better before taking PSY 247
  • PSY 306 Cognitive Psychology (or PSY 205 in 2nd year)
  • PSY 327 Research Methods II
    • fulfills the university's Stage 3 writing requirement
    • Students must complete PSY 247 with a grade of C or better before taking PSY 327
  • PSY 2XX/3XX "Developmental" Course (PSY 206, 208, 210, 314)
  • PSY 3XX/4XX "Specialized", "Biological Bases of Behavior", or "Individual Differences"
  • PSY 390 Professional Development (second semester or fourth year)
  • LAC Courses - LAC Tier II should be complete by the end of the second semester
  • electives or minor courses

Fourth Year

  • PSY 390 Professional Development (if not taken during third year)
  • PSY 402/409 Current Research in Child Psychology or Current Research in Psychology
    • both courses fulfill the university's Tier III requirement
    • You may NOT take both courses!
  • PSY 419 History & Systems of Psychology
  • PSY 3XX/4XX "Specialized", "Biological Bases of Behavior", or "Individual Differences" Course
  • electives or minor courses
