Meeting commenced at 9:00 am
Motion to accept the minutes of the previous meeting (K.Jacobi, D.Bachand - Passed)
Senate Presentation
- AVP Sweeney attended the December 1 Senate Meeting and gave a presentation on Eastern’s budget. A copy of the presentation was shared with the committee.
- AVP Sweeney will send the committee a draft message that will be sent to the Eastern community about the budget presentation made to the University Senate.
- An energy conservation reminder for Wintersession will also be emailed out to the community.
Spring Meetings
- Our January 28 meeting will be a joint meeting with BRAC on the Spending Plan and will focus on key assumptions.
- The committee is going to be more involved in the development of the budget at the Spending Plan level.
- A tentative schedule has been set for the Spring. Some of the Thursday meetings may be rescheduled.
o Thursday, January 28, 10–noon; Purpose: Joint meeting on Spending Plan.
o Thursday, February 25, 10–noon; Purpose: Review savings efforts including Work-$mart; Update on Governor’s budget and Mid-Year Spending Plan.
o Thursday, March 18, 10–noon; Purpose: Review submitted budget plan; provide FY 2010 update.
o Monday, April 19, 9–11; Purpose: State fiscal update; equipment and technology planning; savings update.
o Tuesday, May 11, 1 – 3; Purpose: Semester wrap-up.
Tuition and Fee Update
- The Tuition and Fee Rates were approved last week by the Board of Trustees.
- The rates are slightly higher than what we recommended and will generate more revenue than we had planned.
- Copies of the In-State Undergraduate Cost of Attendance Schedule were shared with the committee.
Other
- It is important for Eastern to focus in and keep delivering despite what’s going on.
- Keep pushing savings so that we can have better control of our destiny.
- Overall growth and enrollment will be by retention with part-time enrollment
reductions estimated at 5%. This will fill out the upper classes and open up lower
classes.
Next meeting will be Thursday, January 28 at 10:00 in the Connecticut Room, Gelsi-Young Hall
