The LA Spring Break Theatre Program was developed by Professor Ellen Faith Brodie, Director of Theatre, as a Spring Break intensive immersion into the television and film industry in order to prepare Theatre students for work on-screen as well as on-stage. The Theatre program provides classes (i.e. On-Camera Acting; Auditioning for Stage and Screen; various film appreciation, history and theory courses) as well as opportunities for students to work with television and film professionals (e.g. casting directors, talent agents, actors, directors, producers, writers, etc.) in master classes at Eastern and now through this Spring Break program in Los Angeles. The LA Spring Break Program now joins in a regular rotation with the week-long NYC Showcase and the month-long Summer In London Program and other field experiences (i.e. Hawaii, Asia, Edinburgh, etc.).
The LA Spring Break Theatre Program consists of a week of classes, workshops, tours, talks, and explorations of LA’s environs led by an impressive roster of working LA professionals: [i.e. Terry Berland (Berland Casting); Brad Lemack (Talent Manager); Pam Roylance (actress); John Gidcomb (Loop De Loop Voice Acting); Paul Weber (Weber Casting); Nick Omana (NOVA Voiceovers); Mike Kelly (Warner Bros. Writer/Producer); Jacquie Barnbrook (actress/producer/Motion Capture and Virtual Reality performer); Julene Renee (Motion Capture/Virtual Reality performer); Corey Sorenson (actor); Dan Lauria (actor/writer/producer); as well as ECSU alumni and others living in and working in the field in LA].
In addition to an immersion into the on-camera worlds of television, film, and the web, students are exposed to the many theatrical venues and artistic opportunities that LA offers (i.e. tour of the Getty Museums and other cultural/iconic sites). Students also tour professional schools such as the American Film Institute in order to familiarize them with the next steps of professional training and advanced graduate degrees.
