Alexis finished her four years at Eastern as a University Honors Scholar, completing a B.A. in Theatre with a concentration in Acting/Directing and a minor in English. As an Honors Scholar, her undergraduate research and thesis focused on linguistics for the stage.
“Since graduation, I have had the pleasure of working consistently in my field, performing with the Downtown Cabaret Theatre in Bridgeport in ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ and in Yeston’s ‘Phantom.’ I’ve also had the pleasure of performing in the tour and encore tour of ‘Earth Day Everyday,’ which was written and directed by Eastern alumni and sponsored by CREC as an Eversource initiative for students all around Connecticut.”
Alexis was accepted into the Young Artists Program at Madison Lyric Stage, and performed in productions of "Godspell" and "Company” in summer 2018.
“Eastern‘s liberal arts core curriculum and Honors Program gave me the incentive to explore subjects that were outside of my discipline. I was pushed to open my mind to the larger world, and to approach all conflicts, theories, pieces of art, with critical thinking going forward. This has greatly informed the way in which I approach my craft and my daily experiences out of the performance realm. I am confident in thinking for myself and creating my own work, while thoughtfully and productively questioning the work of others.
“The Theatre Program gave me the groundwork for a varied and sustainable career as a theatre artist. I have experiences in directing, technical theatre and devised work, as well as dialect coaching, in addition to the myriad opportunities I was given to perform onstage in musicals and in straight theatre. I was fortunate to compete regionally in festivals, and had the priceless experience of studying in London, Los Angeles and New York during my time in the program. Faculty and staff were encouraging, and always willing to meet with me one-on-one and offer advice as I pursued professional auditions while in school; they have also been willing and available ever since.
“Eastern’s Music Program also has played an immeasurable role in shaping my successes thus far. After showing an interest in solo singing as a freshman, I was given private voice lessons as part of my curriculum. I also had opportunities to perform publicly for the school and community on multiple occasions, as well as an auditioned place in the University Chamber Singers, through which I had the privilege of traveling around the states and even to Puerto Rico.”
While at Eastern, Alexis placed first in the College Musical Theatre Division at the annual auditions of the Connecticut Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. “Listening back to my vocal recordings from the summer before freshman year, it’s clear how much I can thank Eastern for fostering my growth towards the performance proficiency I now enjoy.”
“Eastern provided me with a network of caring faculty and staff in many areas of study, all of whom continue to be there for me in my post-graduate pursuits. For this, I am exceptionally grateful and will continue to be so as I progress in my career.”
