Eastern Connecticut State University’s political science honor society, Pi Sigma Alpha, has been awarded a Chapter Activity Grant by the national honor society to help facilitate a debate between Connecticut State House Minority Leader Vincent Candelora and Majority Leader Jason Rojoas. Eastern's chapter aims to hold the debate prior to the November 2022 elections.
“We believe that students will be interested in hearing the political debate,” said Trevor Mays, current president of Eastern’s chapter. “It will make students more aware and more likely to participate in the elections of their own local representatives at the end of the year.”
Chapter Activity Grants enable local Pi Sigma Alpha chapters to host events that further the chapter’s recognition and education. As resources are limited, only those with thorough and well-planned events are awarded. According to the Pi Sigma Alpha website, “A good proposal will clearly and concisely describe the exact nature and scope of the proposed activity. It will have a complete and realistic budget that follows the grant guidelines. In addition, the proposed activity will be worthwhile, feasible and compatible with the purposes of PSA.”
The funding from the grant will help Eastern's chapter to pay for the trip of the two politicians, as well as refreshments for participants.
