Eastern Connecticut State University welcomed nearly 100 children from the Windham Public School After School Program to campus for Fall Fest on Oct. 28, an afternoon of festive games, prizes and seasonal treats. The event was organized by the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) in partnership with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
According to CCE director Lana O’Connor, the event aimed to bring the spirit of fall and community engagement to life. “Events like Fall Fest create memorable experiences for local youth," said O’Connor. "It’s a chance for our student leaders to actively engage and give back."
More than 90 student-athletes, 8 CCE student leaders, and 30 after-school volunteers from Eastern worked together on the event, which featured a mix of Halloween-themed games where children could win prizes and pastries. The festive gathering not only filled the day with smiles and laughter but underscored the university’s commitment to community outreach.
"This collaboration reflects Eastern’s dedication to fostering relationships with the surrounding community," said O'Connor. "It’s all about the positive impact we can make together. ... Thanks to the combined efforts of SAAC, CCE and Windham Public Schools, Fall Fest was deemed a success and stands as a testament to Eastern’s vibrant role in the local community.”
