On Sept. 18, the Business Information Systems - IT Students of America (BIS-ITSA) club hosted a resume writing workshop. This event followed the organization’s resume preparation workshop on Sept. 11, which allowed students to further refine their resumes and get professional advice on how to best format and present their accomplishments to employers.
This event welcomed both company representatives and Eastern alumni, who represented several major companies in Connecticut, including The Hartford, Travelers, Arch Insurance Group, Hass Automation and ISO New England. Attendees were granted an opportunity to sit down in a personal, one-on-one session with alumni and receive feedback on their resumes.
Students were also taught key points in making their resumes stand out, such as using specific keywords, quantifying their work experience, highlighting biz-tech skillsets and showcasing projects on their resume from both school and outside of the classroom.
In today’s job market, it is integral to have a well-crafted resume that stands out from competition. The BIS-ITSA Club hosts a resume writing workshop event every semester to grant Eastern students an advantage and a sense of confidence when applying for positions. As well as being a valuable opportunity for professional networking, the event let students gain additional insights as to what skill sets are sought by Connecticut employers in a competitive job market.
