BIS-ITSA hosts resume preparation workshop

Students at BIT-ITSA's resume preparation workshop

On Sept. 11, the Business Information Systems - IT Students of America (BIS-ITSA) club hosted their “Resume Prep” workshop to give resume writing tips to club members and students interested in the field of BIS. The event aimed to help students write resumes that stand out and highlight their most prominent educational achievements.

Alex Citurs, associate professor and associate chair of BIS, presented to more than 50 students, an attendance record since 2020. Citurs has a long history in the BIS field and has fostered connections with major Connecticut companies, who find Eastern BIS resumes appealing.

On Sept. 18, biz-tech alumni who are now company representatives visited the campus and provided feedback on the newly crafted resumes. Citurs gave many valuable insights during the presentations, some of which included relevant skills, coursework and projects one should present on their resume. Tips were also given on formatting options, such as modifying the margins and changing vertical spacing to fit more content on your resume, along with organizing skills and coursework into tables, then deleting the borders to give it a clean and structured look.

This workshop is held during the first weeks of every semester and offers students a unique opportunity, as well as pizza, cookies and soda being provided.
