The Department of Music at Eastern Connecticut State University will treat audiences to a range of music from around the world and across time in its fall 2023 music season. All events occur in the Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC) Concert Hall and are open to the public. For ticketed events, visit the Box Office website.    

October 

For the first ensemble performance of the semester, the Eastern Concert Band will perform Frank Erickson and Gustav Holst’s “First Suite in E-flat” on Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the FAIC Concert Hall. Also highlighted are the works of Katahj Copley and Cait Nishimura. 

November 

Thread City Jazz, Eastern’s resident trio of faculty musicians, will perform on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in the FAIC Concert Hall.  

Eastern’s Opera Workshop will present “An American Opera Double Bill” on Nov. 10 and 12 in the FAIC Concert Hall. This production is a double feature showcasing Henry Mollicone’s “The Face on the Barroom Floor” and “The Beautiful Bridegroom” by Dan Shore.  

The Concert Chorale will perform its annual concert on Nov. 19 at 2:30 p.m. in the FAIC Concert Hall. This large ensemble of singers along with the Eastern Chamber Singers will take audiences through a range of choral arrangements from nearly 400 years ago to the mid-20th century. This event is ticketed. 

Students and faculty of the Piano Studio will serenade audiences on Nov. 20 at 3 p.m. in the FAIC Concert Hall. The following week, both the Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo will present two jazz sets on Nov. 27 at 7:30 p.m.  

December 

The Percussion Ensembles concert on Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the FAIC Concert Hall will feature large and small groups of musicians performing percussion pieces from various composers and cultures. 

The Opera Workshop and a small ensemble from Eastern’s Concert Chorale will collaborate on Dec. 3 at 2:30 to perform John Rutter’s “The Reluctant Dragon.” The opera is based on Kenneth Grahame’s story of the same name, packed with musical storytelling and medieval mischief. This event is ticketed and will occur in the FAIC Concert Hall. 

The penultimate event of the semester will feature several student chamber ensembles in a music recital on Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the FAIC Concert Hall. Selected works range from the Baroque Era to modern compositions.  

The final performance of the semester will feature the Eastern Concert Band as it celebrates the holidays during “Sounds of the Season” at 7:30 p.m. in the FAIC Concert Hall.
