Eastern bustles with students’ return to campus

CAB Kick Off

Eastern Connecticut State University welcomed nearly 4,000 students to campus last week for the start of the fall 2021 semester. Of the more than 3,400 full-time undergraduate students, nearly 2,000 moved in to residence halls on Aug. 24. The first week back to campus also greeted more than 2,000 commuter students who are enrolled with full-time and part-time course loads in both graduate and undergraduate programs.

A variety of Warrior Welcome activities allowed new students to acclimate to campus and become familiar with on-campus services and resources. During Warrior Welcome, students participated in both formal and informal programs to get to know their fellow Eastern students.

“I hope our new students felt welcomed to Eastern and will continue to participate in activities and programs that will connect them to the Eastern community,” said Casey Kensey, director of New Student and Family Programs.

Students saw presentations on “The Value of Diversity and Other Scary Words” and “Sex Signals,” which taught them about Eastern’s culture of respect and the importance of civility and inclusion.  Students explored campus in a scavenger hunt; watched a drive-in movie on Webb Lawn; and saw a performance by mentalist Wes Mathison.

Peer Mentor meetings allowed first-year students to meet their peer mentors and other new students in their FYI-100 class. Students gathered in locations across campus for meetings pertaining to their academic major. Tours showed students around downtown Willimantic. The Campus Activity Board (CAB) hosted a kick off event at the Student Center; and more.
