Students Honored at the 21st Annual Accounting Banquet

 On April 21, more than 180 administrators, alumni, faculty, students and friends from several accounting firms took the time from their busy schedules to travel to Eastern Connecticut State University to support the accounting program and student award recipients.

The keynote speaker was alumna Jennifer Hawkins, ’00 and M’02, CPA, Partner, Mahoney Sabol & Co. Eastern’s Accounting Society and student chapter of Institute of Management Accountants co-sponsored the event with accounting Professor Moh’d RuJoub.

Several outstanding students in the discipline received awards, presented to them by leaders in the Connecticut accounting community. Matthew Boughton ’16 of Stonington won the Blum Shapiro award. The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants presented Melanie Krol ’15 of Wallingford with their Merit Award, and Christopher Gardella ’15 of Voluntown received their Junior Award. Professor William Sisco bestowed the Founders of Accounting Award on Jessica Costa ‘15 of Gales Ferry, Karolina Chrzanowska ’15 of Southington and Nicholas Lagace ’15 of Griswold. The O’Connor Davies, LLP award was given to Josibelk Aponte ’14 of Vernon.

The Accounting Society extended its appreciation to the Office of Institutional Advancement at Eastern for the work put in to make the event a success and for its continuing support.
