Environmental Earth Science

Hailey Cocca '25

"My lifelong passion for geology has continued to grow in my years at Eastern, and I was able to flourish in a department that encourages undergraduate research. With the help of my faculty mentor, I conducted my thesis research on a 10-day trip to the south-central Pyrenees of Spain. My professor, a fellow student, and I hiked through the Spanish mountains — it was a life-changing experience!"

Ian Valeta '25

"I am a first-generation honors scholar studying Computer Science, with minors in Mathematics and Studio Art. I work on-campus as a Computer Science tutor while wrapping up my honors thesis researching the environmental impact of video gaming technologies. Midway through my sophomore year, I switched my major to Computer Science, where I have learned programming, data-structures, algorithms, computer architecture and software engineering."

Kylie Vermilya

"I graduated with my bachelor's in accounting and I'm now taking Eastern's master's program in accounting. Eastern's small environment has been a huge advantage; it fosters close relationships with professors and classmates, which makes learning more engaging. The program offers fantastic opportunities, including internships and networking events that have allowed me to gain real-world experience and make valuable connections in the industry."

"As a member of the men's lacrosse team, I love how kind and caring everyone at Eastern is — from professors to students and other coaches. The atmosphere at our sports games is so electric to play for our fans. Having to find the balance of school, lacrosse and friends is teaching me valuable life skills that will help as I continue to grow in the world."

Emily Conte '27

Emily has used access to student clubs to make new friends, including as a member of the 180 Christian Fellowship club. She also auditioned for Carrie the Musical and was cast as Carrie, where she developed her acting skills and met some awesome people. "Not only does Eastern make students feel at home through clubs and organizations, it provides incredible resources and support systems through its residential life."

Brayden Alexis '25

Brayden took advantage of Eastern's study abroad programs to spend five months studying in the United Kingdom and traveling across Europe and Africa. "As a Cognitive Neuroscience major, I always knew I wanted to spend my career helping to better the lives of those around me. Through my study abroad experience, I learned I could apply this passion on a global scale."

"Growing up, I always knew I loved technology. So when it came to picking a college major, I went with computer science, and it's been a great experience at Eastern. Attending a career fair was key to securing my internship, where I gained invaluable corporate experience. As a Software Development Intern, I developed my technical skills and gained a deeper understanding of the industry."

She is the person that inspired me to go into the healthcare field and follow in her footsteps as a nurse. "A turning point for me was taking a Geography of Food class, which introduced me to the connections between philosophy, policy and sustainability. I also embarked on my own independent research, exploring how artificial intelligence could be used to analyze high-speed rail policy in the U.S. My faculty mentor encouraged my work and also urged me to present my findings at conferences across the nation."

Audience members filled Eastern’s Concert Hall on Feb. 19 for an exclusive premiere of the Amazon Prime Video series “The College Tour,” which features an episode dedicated to Eastern in its upcoming season this spring. In addition to the exclusive screening, the event featured a premiere party and Q&A session with the student cast.
