The Vertefeuilles

Albert '60 & Judith (Bloch) Vertefeuille '62

Al and JudyAl and Judy first met in Shafer Hall in 1959. Al was a returning veteran, having been stationed in Germany, and was finishing his senior year; Judy was a freshman.

They married in June 1961 and Al began teaching third grade in Lebanon while Judy finished her senior year. Al eventually became principal in Union, CT, and then Lebanon, CT, where he later became the superintendent. Judy became a reading and instructional consultant in the Windham Public School system, receiving the Teacher of the Year Award from North Windham in 2001.

Al and Judys weddingAl is the former chair of the Board of Trustees for the Connecticut State Technical Colleges and the Connecticut Board of Governors for Higher Education. He is also past president of the CT Elementary/Middle School Principals Association, ECSU Alumni Association and the UConn Neag School of Education Alumni Society. Al received the Distinguished Service Award from the Eastern Alumni Association in 2011 and is currently serving on the Board of Education in Lebanon.  Judy is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Jonathan Trumbull Library. They have been married 58 years and have four children and 17 grandchildren. Al says, “Thank you Eastern, for giving us a place where students and faculty become friends and learning becomes a lifelong adventure.”
