The Leadership Communication concentration in the Communication Major prepares students for careers in a variety of organizations. Students will demonstrate a professional level competency in verbal, nonverbal, written and digital communication skills common to institutional settings, including public speaking and presentation, conflict management and persuasive communication.

COM 312 Professional Presentations
This advanced course in presentation graphics, techniques, and theory is designed to provide the student with the skills and theory needed for creating individual and group presentations.
COM 330 Organizational Communication
An investigation through theory and practice of formal group communication in organizational settings. Strong emphasis on simulation exercises.
COM 401 Advanced Interpersonal Communication
Advanced Interpersonal Communication extends the study of both functional and dysfunctional aspects of human interaction with particular emphasis on the most commonly employed empirical theories of interpersonal communication across a variety of relational contexts.
COM 201 Nonverbal Communication
Explores nonverbal communication in multiple contexts, including leisure, education, and workplace settings. Focus on the role of gestures, facial expressions, use of space and time, clothing, and other environmental influences on expression. Students will become skilled senders and receivers of nonverbal communication and will perform systematic data collection in naturalistic settings.
COM 252 Social Media Strategies
Looks at management and marketing of social media. How to: Drive traffic to a site, cross list and cross promote sites, understand what increases precedence of listing in search engines. The value of metatags, frequency of posting and the difference between narrow and broad focus of site content.
COM 255 Health Communication
This course will focus on how communication helps shape the health industry. Health communication will be looked at within organizational, cultural, and interpersonal frameworks. During this class, students will gain hands on experience utilizing health communication in a real-world setting.
COM 301 Persuasion
This course explores the fundamental elements of the process of persuasion, both via interpersonal communication and through the mass media. Case studies of coercive persuasion, advertising, political persuasion and the communication of cultural ideology are discussed.
COM 331 Dispute Resolution & Mediation
An introduction to non-violent conflict resolution and the various forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Methods and strategies used to manage violence and adversarial litigation will be explored. Subjects to be covered include non-violent resistance, conflict analysis, stress and anger management, conflict coaching, non-violent communication, negotiation, mediation, the collaboration process and arbitration.
