More than 200 Eastern Connecticut State University students, faculty, staff, alumni and their families recently came together for a day of baseball and springtime fun in celebration of Eastern Day at Dunkin’ Park in Hartford on April 14.
Attendees enjoyed a Hartford Yard Goats baseball game. The game began with Eastern attendees holding the American flag at center field during the national anthem. Bryan Albee ’22, a pitcher on Eastern’s 2022 national championship baseball team, threw the first pitch.
Students and children also participated in several games and activities. In the “baby goat race,” the grandson of La Shawn McBride, associate director of human resources at Eastern, dressed up in goat costumes and raced around the baseball field.
The benefits for staff members’ children did not end there. The TD Bank “base change” featured Tyler Orcutt, son of Administrative Assistant Ashley Orcutt, changing a base.
As for students, they enjoyed a center-field view of the game and a buffet on the Budweiser Sky Deck. Amani Jones, president of the Student Government Association, participated in the game’s routine on-field promotional activities as part of the “Henkel hat shuffle.”
“It was a great day to see so many members of the Eastern community coming together to enjoy a baseball game and reconnect with many familiar faces,” said Alyssa Duffy, associate director of student activities.
