Eastern Connecticut State University’s Campus Activity Board (CAB) and the Jazz Combo recently collaborated for a morning of entertainment in recognition of National Coffee Day. CAB hosted the Jazz Combo for a performance in the Student Center Café on Sept. 29.
CAB served a variety of refreshments, including coffee, tea and baked goods, all provided by Chartwells. Students were free to attend, grab some free breakfast, listen to live music and study at their leisure.
“Who doesn’t like a soft jazz band while studying?” asked Frida Nieto, CAB's entertainment coordinator.
Students attended throughout the morning to enjoy what Nieto called the “good atmosphere” and “coffee house vibes” provided by the event. Some were there for the event specifically, while others were there to study and stumbled upon the free refreshments and live jazz music.
Music Lecturer Rick O’Neal, who oversees the Jazz Combo, said that the band’s set list was put together “overnight.” The musicians played many songs that they had never rehearsed together, coming up with their own arrangements on the spot.
The players included O’Neal (bass guitar) and students Jacob Wurst (piano), Eddie Cintron (alto saxophone), Dylan Schore (baritone saxophone) and Noel Teter (drums).
