Lavender Graduation celebrates LGBTQIA seniors
Eastern held its fifth annual Lavender Graduation on April 28 in the Betty R. Tipton Room. The celebratory event recognized the accomplishments of nine LGBTQIA+ graduating seniors and their allies. The ceremony also recognized "the unique obstacles that many have faced during their collegiate careers,” said Nicole Potestivo, coordinator of the Pride Center, which sponsored the event.
Brent Terry authors poetry book '21st Century Autoimmune Blues'
English lecturer Brent Terry gave a poetry reading on April 26 in support of his new book, “21st Century Autoimmune Blues.” Published by the Unsolicited Press, Terry’s book is a series of poems that tackles political and personal subjects with comedy and emotion.
Nancy Gonzalez presents on vaccine supply chains at regional conference
Health Sciences major Nancy Gonzalez ’22 presented research at the Northeast Decision Science Institute’s (NESDI) 51st annual conference in Newark, NJ, on April 7–9. Representing a four-student team of researchers from Eastern, including Nicole Thomassen ’22, Aidan Dunn ’22 and Merita Cecunjanin ’21, Gonzalez presented the group’s project, “Vaccine Supply Chain (VSC) Systems: An Analysis Using Operations Management Perspective.”
Family Day returns to campus after 3-year hiatus
Eastern students and families gathered for a day of festivities on April 23 for the first Family Day since fall 2019. Sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and the Student Government Association (SGA), families spent the day on campus enjoying a variety of activities and competing against other families for prizes.
English Department hosts 2 visiting writers
The English Department hosted two authors this semester as part of its Visiting Writers Series. Anna Qu visited on April 18 for a Q&A and reading of her debut memoir, “Made in China: A Memoir of Love and Labor.” Mary Romney-Schaab visited on April 27 for a presentation on her book “An Afro-Caribbean in the Nazi Era: From Papiamentu to German.”
State General Assembly leaders visit Eastern
Eastern’s chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national honor society for political science, hosted both leaders of the Connecticut General Assembly on March 28 in the Paul E. Johnson Sr. Community Conference Room for a discussion on state politics. House Minority Leader Vincent Candelora (R) and House Majority Leader Jason Rojas (D) were brought to campus with funding from a Chapter Activity Grant awarded by Pi Sigma Alpha.
