More than 75 Eastern Connecticut State University volunteers dispersed across Windham on April 23 for the Center for Community Engagement’s (CCE) annual Town Pride Town Wide beautification event. Eastern students and alumni picked up rakes, paint brushes and garbage bags as they worked on spring cleaning projects with eight community agencies.
The volunteers, including the women’s soccer team, worked at the Lauter Park community garden, Saint Joseph Living Center, CLiCK co-operative kitchen, Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum, Windham Textile & History Museum, Abundant Church Life and more.
“Seeing the students come together for one last garden clean up (of the academic year) was one of the highlights of Town Pride Town Wide,” said Lexie Mastroianni, CCE program coordinator. “They went to many sites within the Windham community, including Lauter Park where they put in multiple garden beds. (Our two) student leaders showed up with 15 volunteers and made a huge difference at the community garden.”
