Warriors baseball and softball ranked nationally
The Eastern Warriors baseball team is currently ranked second in the nation in NCAA Division III with a 16-2 record. The Warriors softball team is also performing well, and is ranked eighth in the nation with a 18-4 record. Check out the teams’ successes at:

Student Colleen Goff selected for CT Poetry Circuit
English major Colleen Goff is one of only four college students statewide selected to be a Connecticut Student Touring Poet in the 2021-22 Connecticut Poetry Circuit. As part of the circuit, Goff will perform in a virtual reading sponsored by Eastern on April 13 at 7 p.m. Watch a video of her acclaimed poem “Sagging Pants Isn’t the Issue.”
Eastern hosts hospital medical interpreters in support of new minor
The Departments of Health Sciences and World Languages & Cultures hosted three speakers from the Language Services Department at Yale-New Haven Hospital on March 29 for a special lecture on the field of medical interpreting. At Yale-New Haven, Crystal Jeter-Prince is manager of Language Services; Mary Ann Vargas-Mendoza is a certified medical interpreter and assistant manager of Language Services; and Mohamed Hegazi is a lead interpreter and certified Arabic medical interpreter. The event was in support of Eastern’s new Medical Interpreting in Spanish minor.
Eastern celebrates Trans Day of Visibility
Eastern’s Unity Wing and Pride Center celebrated Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV) on March 31. “It is important to highlight TDOV at Eastern because we want to celebrate, acknowledge and stand with our trans community on this international day of awareness,” said Pride Center coordinator Nicole Potestivo.
Bouley speaks on new books
Education Professor Theresa Bouley gave a talk on her new book, “Implicit Bias: An Educator’s Guide to the Language of Microaggressions,” on March 29 in the Dr. David G. Carter Science Building. “Implicit bias is insidious and often runs contrary to what we think we believe,” said Bouley. “As a result, our implicit bias is often experienced by students as microaggressions. BIPOC students and students with varying identities come to our college classrooms having experiences microaggressions throughout their schooling.” Bouley’s talk explored ways to identify implicit bias, examined types of microaggressions, and gave suggestions to change unconscious behavior.
NPR personality Giovanni Rossi speaks on women's wellness
Eastern welcomed mindfulness coach, mentor and podcaster Giovanna Rossi to campus on March 30 for a workshop on women's wellness. Rossi led an interactive, women-focused presentation on how to take control and envision personal goals, selfcare and improvement.
