CCE mentoring program welcomes local middle school students

One of the Center for Community Engagement's ongoing partnerships is with Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS), a mentoring program with Windham Middle School. The CCE is hosting the program in the University's Student Center. On a weekly basis, Eastern volunteers meet with the middle schoolers for various activities that build character, develop emotional intelligence, encourage creativity and more. Read Story

Megan Piechowicz receives travel award to attend plant biology conference

Biology student Megan Piechowicz was awarded a travel award by the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB) to attend the Worldwide Plant Biology Summit from July 9-13 in Portland, OR. While at the conference, Piechowicz will present her research project titled “Phenotypic characterization and mutation analysis of mutants defective in anthocyanin and proanthocyanidins in the model legume plant medicago truncatula.” Read Story

'Eye-Mind-Body' presents drawing in action

The Art Gallery’s latest exhibition, “Eye-Mind-Body,” is open to the public through April 22. The showcase features five artists who specialize in drawing. "Each brings their own unique rationales and processes to the actions of drawing,” said Mark Gerard McKee, curator of the exhibition. Read Story

Pi Sigma Alpha receives grant for political debate

Eastern’s political science honor society, Pi Sigma Alpha, has been awarded a Chapter Activity Grant by the national honor society to help facilitate a debate between Connecticut State House Minority Leader Vincent Candelora and Majority Leader Jason Rojoas. Eastern's chapter aims to hold the debate prior to the November 2022 elections. Read story

Vasillopulos’ new book interprets Greek tragedy ‘Medea’

Political Science Professor Christopher Vasillopulos recently authored a new book titled “Interpreting Euripides’s Medea from Aristotelian and Nietzschean Perspectives.” Published by Edwin Mellen Press, the book concerns the ancient Greek tragedy "Medea," which centers on the actions of a vengeful wife, Medea, after her husband leaves her for a princess. Rezai contributes to 'Fast Fierce Women' book

Niloufar Rezai, director of the Child and Family Development Resource Center (CFDRC), has contributed a chapter in the book “Fast Fierce Women.” Edited by Gina Barreca, the book is authored solely by women and tells stories that place women in empowering positions. Rezai’s chapter, titled “Niloufar Comes to America,” is a mini-autobiography of the experiences and circumstances that led to her becoming a first-generation, Persian-American immigrant. Read Story
