Zuzu Acrobats perform thrilling Kenyan acrobatics on campus 

The Zuzu African Acrobats thrilled students on April 23 during an energetic performance in the Shafer Hall Auditorium. The Zuzu African Acrobats perform traditional Kenyan acrobatic skills set to high energy beats. The event was a part of the Friday After Dark series and sponsored by the Office of Housing and Residential Life.

Baseball moves up 4 spots to no. 17, remains unanimous no. 1 in New England

The Eastern baseball team climbed in the national rankings for the third straight week and maintained its lock as the unanimous No. 1 selection in New England. On the strength of a 5-0 week which boosted the team's record to 26-4 — its best start after 30 games in program history —the team received all seven first-place votes and 70 total points for the second straight week in the fifth weekly New England poll. Students and faculty awarded for research and mentorship at CREATE conference

Students Olivia Anderson ’21 (political science) and Hannah Beazoglou ’21 (business administration) are this year’s recipients of the President’s Awards, presented in connection with the CREATE conference for outstanding research or artistic work. For faculty, History Professor Thomas Balcerski and Management and Marketing Professor Fatma Pakdil are this year’s recipients of the CREATE Mentor Awards. Physical education program receives SHAPE America recognition

Two students and one faculty member from Eastern’s Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE) received awards at the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) Eastern District Awards this April. Student Lizbeth Macias shares stage with U.S. Department of Education Secretary Cardona

Eastern junior Lizbeth Macias of Waukesha, WI, participated in a national panel on April 20 to discuss DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and the DREAM Act. The panel was hosted by Miguel Cardona, U.S. Secretary of Education. Macias and Cardona were joined by students from California, Florida and other states, as well as school administrators and teachers, all gathered to discuss how to make protections for undocumented students permanent. Biology alumni speak on COVID-19, urge vaccination

Eastern’s Biology Department hosted “Moving Forward: The Pandemic Tales of Two Eastern Alumni,” on April 28. Moderated by Biology Professor Joshua Idjadi, two Eastern alumni from the biology program spoke of their experiences as members of the healthcare profession during the COVID-19 pandemic. Featured alumni included Joanne Michelle Ocampo ’11 and Tunde Olatinwo ’12. Read Story
