Modern Movement presents ‘A Natural Woman’ at 5x5 Dance Festival

The Modern Movement student organization participated in the 5x5 Dance Festival on March 27. The annual showcase is sponsored by the University of St. Joseph and features professional and college dance groups from across Connecticut. This year’s festival was adapted virtually because of the pandemic, with participants pre-recording dances for an online premiere. Modern Movement’s dance to “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin was choreographed by senior theatre major Erin Raymond. Read Story

'Trans 101' workshop gives lesson on 'Transcending Sexpectations'

The Arthur L. Johnson Unity Wing hosted “Transcending Sexpectations,” a workshop centered on understanding intersectionality and LGTBQ+ terminology. Facilitated by educators Maybe Burke and Sean Desiree, the interactive “Trans 101” workshop on March 25 allowed students to talk about transgender and non-binary experiences. Read Story

Softball: Warriors (14-0) vault 5 spots, break into national top 10

Following a four-game sweep of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, the Eastern softball team jumped five spots into the national Top 10 at No. 7 in the fifth NFCA Division III regular-season Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, released April 7. Having been ranked 15th in the first three regular-season polls following a No. 16 pre-season ranking, Eastern (14-0) moved into 12th place on March 31 after sweeping three home doubleheaders, and broke into the Top 10 this week after back-to-back sweeps this past Friday and Saturday. Music students sing in Connecticut NATS competition

Seven students from the Music Program recently competed in the Connecticut chapter competition of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the competition was carried out virtually with performers sending in prerecorded videos. The judges panel was composed of voice professionals from across the state, including representatives from universities and private studios. Founded in 1944, NATS is the largest association of teachers of singing in the world. Read Story
