Local soup kitchen holds ‘virtual’ Plunge for Hunger
The Covenant Soup Kitchen held its 10th annual Plunge for Hunger on Feb. 6, this year with a virtual twist. Rather than a crowd of costume-wearing community members and Eastern Connecticut State University students diving into the icy waters of the Natchaug River, supporters participated remotely, “plunging” into anything from a snowy creek to the Atlantic Ocean to their own bathtub, in an effort to raise funds for the Willimantic soup kitchen. Men's basketball team resumes in spring 2021
Eastern Connecticut State University's men's basketball team is resuming play this spring 2021 after cancelling the fall season due to COVID-19. Sixteen student athletes are playing for the Warriors in the Little East Conference's (LEC) abridged basketball season. "I think the returning players are excited to wipe away last year and all the memories that came with it,” said head coach Bill Geitner. “The new guys are excited to get a great education from a great university, and from a basketball standpoint, they are excited because we have had success in the past." CCE volunteers shovel out neighbors
Fifteen student volunteers with the Center for Community Engagement shoveled snow for local residents over the weekend. The volunteers shoveled driveways and front porches at six homes in the hill section of Willimantic.
