Eastern’s Center for Internship and Career Development (CICD) hosted “Ready, Set, Graduate” on Feb. 12 for seniors graduating this spring. The goal of the event was to get students prepared for future careers and graduate school opportunities. Students were able to have their resumes reviewed, participate in mock interviews and meet potential employers. They explored alternate career opportunities, had their headshots taken and reviewed the clothing options offered for borrow in the CICD’s Career Closet.
During the event, Assistant director of Student Activities Alyssa Duffy presented a workshop titled, “Say it Like a Warrior!” According to Duffy, the workshop was “an initiative created by Student Affairs to help students’ articulate skills they’ve gained on campus for employers.” Students that attended the workshop learned how to present skills that they’ve gained through involvement on an odd campus. Duffy highlighted eight competencies that employers look for: critical thinking, communication, teamwork, digital technology, leadership, work ethic, career management and global fluency.
Ways students can get involved include on and off campus employment, joining clubs and organizations, sports teams, community service and leadership positions such as residential assistants. “Events like these make me excited to graduate and see what’s out there in the world,” said CICD career assistant Telisha Ramsay, a sophomore majoring in criminology.
