Eastern Connecticut State University had another strong showing of support at the annual Relay For Life of Greater Windham, held Oct. 17–18 at the Mansfield Athletic Complex. With Eastern’s Center for Community Engagement handling logistics, 97 Eastern students volunteered 171 hours throughout the 24-hour event.
The American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay For Life is the world’s largest fundraising event to end cancer. It unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and take action to finish the fight once and for all. According to the ACS, more than 400 participants raised more than $82,600 at the Windham relay.
Eastern’s involvement is part of “Connecticut Public Higher Education Make a Difference Week,” a campaign from Oct. 18–24 that celebrates the community engagement efforts happening at the state’s 17 public colleges and universities. The campaign coincides with “National Make a Difference Day” on Oct. 24.
