| These child welfare placements afford students broad opportunity to practice in the child welfare arena. Students work within the treatment units of the state department of child welfare. Students engage in assessment and intervention activities, including conducting home visits; providing relevant referrals; supervising child and family visits; providing supportive problem solving, and providing concrete assistance. They act as mentors to children and adolescents. Students engage in agency record keeping, including the development of treatment plans and court documents. Students learn about community change activities including prevention efforts and legislative change promoted by the department. | |

| The Eastconn Preschool Intervention Program (PIP) is an intensive family support program which emphasizes the development and maintenance of mutually responsive relationships between parents and their children. Families experiencing a variety of stressors who have children from birth through five years are eligible. Students engage in family assessments and interventions in office-based play group, community and home settings. Students learn about family focused interventions and use of a variety of empowerment tools in practice. | |
